Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir met Turkish President Erdogan for a discussion regarding cooperation and defense ties

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir met Turkish President Erdogan to discuss cooperation and defense ties.

Major Asim Munir of the Army Staff met with Turkish Presidency Recep Tayyip Erdogan at an official reception to review bilateral cooperation between their countries, according to the military’s media affairs division.

At one point during his tour of Turkey, General Asim visited the Presidential Complex, where he met high-ranking Turkish officials, including Secretary of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan.

Islamabad and Ankara’s high-level visit is part of their efforts to enhance longstanding military-diplomatic ties.

COAS also called upon foreign and defense ministers, commanders from Turkey’s General Staff, and commanders of Turkish air and land forces, and more emphasis placed upon collaboration for defense training purposes.

ISPR reports that the Army Chief was incredibly impressed with Turkish Military efforts to maintain security and peace throughout their region while appreciative of high operational capability standards within The Turkish Armed Forces.

Erdogan and other Turkish leaders acknowledged Pakistan Army engineers who participated in NDMA groups during February’s tragic earthquake that hit Turkey.

After meeting with senior officers, COAS visited Ankara’s Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk to pay his respects and lay a wreath of flowers to honor his memory. Next, he headed off to Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he received an enthusiastic reception and was awarded their Guard of Honour.

According to a press release by Turkish Land Forces and Minister of Defense, a Pakistani general with four stars received the Legion of Merit in recognition of his significant efforts towards building mutual defense relations between both nations.

COAS was very clear in his views and stated that Pakistan and Turkey enjoy solid and longstanding ties and are always eager to provide any assistance needed by their land forces in multiple fields. Pakistani troops stand ready to provide all possible support as required by Turkish land forces across various areas, according to COAS.

Pakistan always stood by Turkish friends during times of tragedy or triumph and will work toward strengthening ties between their two nations, ISPR quoted Gen Asim.
