The Ministry of Information Technology (IT) is taking steps towards introducing 5G services. IT issued guidelines directing the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other departments.

The government could earn millions in revenue by auctioning the 5G spectrum in August next year. Currently, 203 firms utilize 367MHz of range; following an auction for content, this figure could reach well beyond 600 MHz.

Before, experts had noted that adding 5G spectrum for any country in crisis within one year is impossible since mobile operators cannot purchase 5G licenses due to financial meltdown.

Dr. Umar Saif, caretaker IT minister of Pakistan, announced on March 14 that 5G services will become accessible nationwide within ten months. Saif considered one of the pioneers in technology, spoke with Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman, who chairs the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), about telecoms such as spectrum auctions for 5G service provisioning auctions and more.
